HC Deb 03 August 1976 vol 916 c656W
Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in order more effectively to prevent bigamy, he will seek to amend the law so that any person seeking to bring another into the United Kingdom with a view to matrimony is required to produce evidence of their own identity and status before approval is given to the admission of the intended spouse.

Dr. Summerskill

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave on 28th July to Questions by the hon. Member for Birmingham, Edgbaston (Mrs. Knight).—[Vol. 916, c.242.]
