HC Deb 02 August 1976 vol 916 cc530-1W
Mr. Knox

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representations he has received to date from teachers' organisations in connection with the establishment of a Teachers' General Council.

Miss Margaret Jackson

Two of the teachers' associations asked my right hon. Friend on separate occasions last year to bring all the associations together in an attempt to secure agreement over the establishment of a teaching council. He made it clear that he would be ready to consider, in consultation with the other interests, any proposals which were agreed between all the teachers' associations.
