HC Deb 02 August 1976 vol 916 c634W
Mr. Rooker

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will list the provisions in legislation for which he is responsible similar to the provision in the Defence Appropriation Bill in the United States of America, which prevents imports of speciality metals for use in any Government contracts; and, if so, if he will make use of it in the case of titanium.

Mr. Meacher

I have powers under the Import, Export and Customs Powers (Defence) Act 1939 to restrict the import of any goods for any reason, but I am not aware of any justification for using them in the case of titanium.
