asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if the latest proposals to reduce public expenditure will affect the decision to build a remand centre at North Weald; and if the previous decision will be reviewed.

The measures announced on 22nd July made no change in the relevant public expenditure programme and have not affected the proposal to build a remand centre at North Weald. All projects in the prison building programme are reviewed periodically.
