Mr. Grimond

asked the Minister for the Civil Service if he will list the grades, salaries, terminal payments and provisions of civil servants earning salaries in excess of £6,000 per year.

The information in this detail for all civil servants is not readily available and could only be assembled at disproportionate cost. The list below covers the main Civil Service grades whose basic national flat rate salaries or scale maxima exceed £6,000 per annum. Within the same definition there are also about 550 departmental grades.

The Principal Civil Service Pension Scheme provides for a pension at the rate of one-eightieth of the best of the last three years' salary for each year of reckonable service plus a lump sum gratuity equivalent to three-eightieths of pensionable salary for each year of reckonable service. The table below shows the maximum pensions and lump sums which can be earned after 40 years' reckonable service. In practice, only a
