HC Deb 02 August 1976 vol 916 cc617-8W
Mr. Grylls

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether, following his Press statement of 22nd July, he intends continuing negotiations with the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry on the level of promotional expenditure on medicines to be allowed under the voluntary price regulation scheme; and whether he has any plans to meet the Chairman and officers of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry in the near future.

Mr. Ennals

Discussions with the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry about the level of promotional expenditure allowed under the voluntary price regulation scheme and about other matters have been going on since November 1974. Officials of my Department and the association are to meet shortly to discuss the arrangements required to give effect to the reduction in the level of allowable expenditure on promotion which I announced on 22nd July as part of the Government's proposals for curbing public expenditure. I met the president of the association on 30th June and I hope to meet him again soon for a further discussion of the other subjects which we have been examining together.
