HC Deb 14 April 1976 vol 909 c620W
Mr. Spearing

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what records he keeps of the numbers of overseas students admitted to the United Kingdom returning to permanent employment in their own countries; if he will publish recent figures; and under what conditions he permits them to take up permanent employment in the United Kingdom after initial entry permission as students.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

My Department does not keep statistics of the numbers of overseas students who, having been admitted to the United Kingdom for study, return to their own countries to take up permanent employment.

The grant of extensions of stay to people, other than EEC nationals, admitted as students to enable them to remain here for employment is governed by the provisions of paragraph 5 of the Statements of Immigration Rules for Control after Entry—HC 80 and 82.
