HC Deb 14 April 1976 vol 909 cc537-8W
Sir John Gilmour

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his latest estimate of the number of new houses which should be built in Scotland; and how this figure compares with the total of applications for housing in all the housing authorities in Scotland.

Mr. Millan

A reasonable estimate can only emerge from the comprehensive assessment of housing needs which district authorities have been urged to undertake. It is now widely accepted that applications for local authority houses alone do not provide a satisfactory indication of housing needs, and I do not collect information about them.
