HL Deb 14 April 1976 vol 369 cc2245-6WA
Lord O'HAGAN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the total of British subjects who are also citizens of Commonwealth countries; and the approximate number for each Commonwealth country.

Lord HARRIS of GREENWICH

Information in this form is not available. In United Kingdom law all citizens of Commonwealth countries are British subjects.

Lord O'HAGAN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many Commonwealth citizens who have become patrial by registration in the United Kingdom have retained the citizenship of their country of origin in each of the last ten years; and

How many of those who have become British subjects by naturalisation have retained the citizenship of their country of origin in each of the last ten years.

Lord HARRIS of GREENWICH

This information is not available; the retention of the citizenship of countries of origin depends on the operation of the laws of those countries in individual cases.
