asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many redundancies were notified to his Department in the textile industry in 1974, 1975 and 1976 to the latest date available.

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that the numbers of redundancies recorded as due to occur in the textile industry in 1974, 1975 and up to 31st March 1976, were 10,200, 21,700 and 4,400* respectively

The notification provisions of the Employment Protection Act were implemented on 8th March, and I will publish information on notifications of proposed redundancies in the textile industry in the Official Report as soon as possible.
