HC Deb 08 April 1976 vol 909 c238W
18. Mr. Hicks

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will carry out an immediate review of the working of the Fire Precautions Act 1971 including the costs which fall on hotels in view of the contribution made by hotels and guest houses to the United Kingdom tourist industry.

Dr. Summerskill

The operation of the Act is kept under continuous review, but it would not be right to relieve hotels and boarding houses, on financial or other grounds, of their statutory obligation to provide reasonable fire precautions.
