§ Mr. Mike Thomasasked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection whether, in the light of the liquidation of the Council for Vehicle Servicing and Repair, she is satisfied that adequate advice and sources of redress are available to consumers of vehicles servicing and repair facilities.
Mr. Alan Lee Williams, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 2nd April 1976, Vol. 908, c. 601–2], gave the following information:
The code of practice recently adopted by the motor industry following consultation with the Office of Fair Trading should result in consumers receiving adequate advice and redress. The code's provisions on complaints and arbitration have replaced this responsibility of the Council, whose other functions have been taken over by the committee set up by the industry to ensure that code's effective operation.
