Mr. Wigley

asked the Lord President of the Council how many representations he has received to date following the publication of the White Paper " Our Changing Democracy "; of these, how many were specifically concerned with Wales and with Scotland, respectively; how many were in support of the White Paper; how many wanted less or no devolution; and how many favoured greater powers for the proposed Assemblies.

The information requested is as follows:

Representations received, including representations to the Constitution Unit—136 from the general public and 26 from organisations;

Representations exclusively concerned with Wales—51 from the general public and six from organisations;

Representations exclusively concerned with Scotland—32 from the general public and five from organisations;

Representations in support of the White Paper—16 from the general public and five from organisations;

Representations in favour of less or no devolution—39 from the general public and three from organisations;

Representations in favour of greater powers for either of the proposed Assemblies—47 from the general public and eight from organisations.

13 representations have been received which contain specific proposals about devolution and England. Of these seven favour devolution to regional authorities within England on a non-federal basis.
