HL Deb 23 October 1975 vol 364 c1720WA
Lord O'HAGAN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What recent steps they have taken to ensure that rabies will not be introduced into the United Kingdom from France via the Isles of Scilly.

The MINISTER of STALE, DEPARTMENT of INDUSTRY (Lord Beswick)

The new measures to prevent the entry of rabies into Great Britain, introduced in February of this year under the Rabies (Importation of Dogs, Cats and Other Mammals) Order 1974, apply to the Isles of Scilly in the same way as they do to all other points of entry into the country. Local enforcement work arising under this Order falls to the police officers stationed in the Isles who are designated as diseases of animals inspectors. The need for vigilance has been publicised throughout the Isles.
