HC Deb 21 October 1975 vol 898 c97W
Mr. Loveridge

asked the Minister for the Civil Service if he will list the circumstances where the public funds available to the Government are used for insurance against personal accident to provide benefits in case of death.

Mr. Charles R. Morris

Where the duties undertaken are of an exceptional character, e.g., flying—or parachuting and bomb disposal in the case of members of the Armed Forces—and the person concerned is required to pay a higher insurance premium assistance may be given from public funds towards the extra cost. Arrangements also exist for meeting from public funds accident insurance premiums in respect of Members of both Houses who travel away from the Palace of Westminster on parliamentary business in the United Kingdom or abroad.
