HC Deb 28 November 1975 vol 901 c332W
Sir W. Elliott

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will give general directions to the area electricity boards and to the British Gas Corporation to cut off supplies to premises occupied by squatters.

Mr. Eadie

No. The electricity and gas industries do not generally have the necessary information to establish the status of occupiers of premises, nor is it part of their duty to do so, before complying with a request to provide a supply when required. The normal requirements to enter into contracts, to give security for payments and to settle bills regularly apply to all consumers.
