HC Deb 26 November 1975 vol 901 cc174-5W
Mr. Stephen Ross

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many pelican crossings there are in Great Britain; and what is the average number of accidents occurring at pelican crossings each month.

Mr. Carmichael

There are about 2,000 pelican crossings in Great Britain. Accident data for them are not available light-controlled crossings sited away from separately, but they form the bulk of junctions, on which an average of 32 pedestrian casualties a month occurred in 1974.
