HC Deb 26 November 1975 vol 901 cc197-8W
Mr. Moate

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what has been the total cost so far of the Metrication Board; what is the estimated annual running cost; and under what authority it was established.

Mr. Alan Williams

The total cost of the Metrication Board from its inception in April 1969 to the end of 1974, the latest date for which figures are available, was approximately £2,928,000. The running cost for 1974 was approximately £655,000. The Metrication Board was set up by the then Minister of Technology's decision as reported to Parliament in a statement made on 26th July 1968—[Vol. 769, c. 1167–1171]—a decision which was endorsed in the White Paper on Metrication of February 1972 (Cmnd. 4880).
