HC Deb 26 November 1975 vol 901 c228W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list those companies: (a) on Merseyside and (b) in Kirkby that have applied for the temporary employment subsidy; how many workers are involved; and which applications have been approved.

Mr. Booth

On Merseyside five applications covering 332 workers have been received and three applications covering 220 workers have been approved. No applications have been made in Kirkby. Information about individual employers is regarded as confidential and I regret I am unable to list the firms concerned.

Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on the employment prospects of school leavers in Kirkby.

Mr. John Fraser

Although the situation has improved considerably since August it is still far from satisfactory, and I do not minimise its seriousness in any way. However, the Government's measures are already having a beneficial effect in Kirkby, and as they continue to take effect I am confident that the situation will further improve.
