§ Mr. Kilroy-Silkasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list those companies: (a) on Merseyside and (b) in Kirkby that have applied for the temporary employment subsidy; how many workers are involved; and which applications have been approved.
§ Mr. BoothOn Merseyside five applications covering 332 workers have been received and three applications covering 220 workers have been approved. No applications have been made in Kirkby. Information about individual employers is regarded as confidential and I regret I am unable to list the firms concerned.
§ Mr. Kilroy-Silkasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on the employment prospects of school leavers in Kirkby.
§ Mr. John FraserAlthough the situation has improved considerably since August it is still far from satisfactory, and I do not minimise its seriousness in any way. However, the Government's measures are already having a beneficial effect in Kirkby, and as they continue to take effect I am confident that the situation will further improve.
