asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what consultations he has had with the Government of the Maldive Islands about the future of Gan after it ceases to be required for British military purposes.

Mr. Ennals

The future of Gan after it ceases to be used for British military purposes was discussed at official talks with representatives of the Government of Maldives which took place on Gan on 17th–19th November.

Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on discussions with the Maldivian Government over the British withdrawal from Gan.

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave to the hon. Member for Blackpool, South (Mr. Blaker) today. Discussions with the Maldivian Government on the withdrawal from Gan are continuing.
