HC Deb 12 November 1975 vol 899 cc683-4W
Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many people were killed in road accidents during the last 12 months; and what percentage of road users he estimates this figure represents.

Dr. Gilbert

During the 12-month period ending August 1975 there were 6,540 people, including pedestrians, killed in road accidents. It is virtually impossible to define the term "road user" but, of the total road accident deaths in 1974, the number of motor vehicle driver, rider and passenger deaths represented about 0.02 per cent. of licensed drivers.
