HC Deb 12 November 1975 vol 899 cc840-1W
Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many cases of poisoning of rivers in the Foyle system have been reported in 1974 and in 1975; what measures are being taken to combat it; and what rivers were affected.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

In 1974 and 1975 respectively four and six incidents were reported on the Rivers Roe and Faughan. Regular patrolling of these rivers is carried out by the Foyle Fisheries Commission's river protection staff and chemists' poison registers are checked to trace sales. Tighter control on the sale of Cymag poisons is also being sought.
