HC Deb 12 November 1975 vol 899 c841W
Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) when it is intended to begin redevelopment of Londonderry city centre and the Foyle Street and Richmond Street area; (2) when it is intended to build the next bus station in Londonderry.

Mr. Concannon

The redevelopment of Londonderry city centre is going ahead, but has been affected by the general economic situation and the need to restrict the growth of public expenditure.

The Northern Ireland Department of Housing, Local Government and Planning is proceeding with land acquisition in the Foyle Street and Richmond Street area. Work on the office block on the Foyle Street site is scheduled to start in 1979–80, but no date has been set for the start of work on the bus station and car park complex. Detailed plans are being prepared by a development company for the Richmond Street area, but no date has been fixed for the start of work.

Mr. William Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when the area plan for Londonderry will be published.

Mr. Concannon

It is hoped to publish before the end of the year the Government's decisions on the Londonderry Area Plan Review 1972 and on objections heard by the Planning Appeals Commission at the public inquiry in January and February 1974.
