Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when the Chairman of the North West Water Authority was appointed; how long he was appointed for; whether he has the power to sack the chairman, or whether other members of the board can sack him; how much the chairman is paid; what hours he is expected to work; and what other benefits besides salary his appointment carries, in particular what pension rights.

Mr. Denis Howell

The Chairman, Mr. P. J. Liddell, was appointed on 27th July 1973 and he holds office until 30th September 1978. The terms of his appointment do not provide for dismissal during this period. He receives a salary of £7,675 per annum, plus threshold payments, and his post is a half-time appointment. The position at present carries no pension rights and no other benefits.
