§ Mr. Leslie Spriggs
asked the Secretary of State for Employment what are the latest figures, both in absolute and percentage terms, for unemployed men, women and school leavers in Scotland, England and Wales, indicating separately figures and percentages for Merseyside

§ Mr. Spriggs
asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many school leavers in each of the last five years, respectively, have signed the register for employment at each of the employment offices in the Merseyside Metropolitan area, have been placed in apprenticeships and in other jobs, respectively; and how many are still unemployed for jobs in 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973 and 1974, and up to the latest convenient date for which the Department have details.

This information is not readily available and could not be obtained without disproportionate cost. On 9th October 1975 there were a total of 6,326 school leavers registered as unemployed in the Merseyside metropolitan county, but the statistics do not

as a whole and for each employment office in the Merseyside Metropolitan County Council area.

Rates of unemployment are calculated by expressing the numbers unemployed as a percentage of the estimated number of employees, employed and unemployed. Rates can be calculated for complete travel-to-work areas but not for their constituent parts. Separate percentage rates of unemployment are not available for school leavers. Following is the information available.
