HC Deb 12 November 1975 vol 899 cc756-7W
Mr. Gwilym Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what study he has made of the evidence of high unemployment in Cannock and Rugeley which has been supplied to him; and if he will take steps to give special help to pockets of very high unemployment outside the development and intermediate area.

Mr. John Fraser

I am aware of the unemployment situation in Cannock and Rugeley and my officials are at present studying a number of reports which have a bearing on this. I am also conscious of the general problems associated with pockets of high unemployment outside the assisted areas. The measures announced on 24th September were designed to mitigate the worst effects of high unemployment wherever these occurred. In particular, the temporary employment subsidy was extended to the country as a whole.
