§ Mr. Alexander W. Lyon195 persons were convicted of manslaughter in England and Wales in 1971: 217 in 1972: and 234 in 1973. Figures for 1975 are not yet available.
Persons sentenced to imprisonment for manslaughter may serve life sentences or 764W determinate sentences, so that no meaningful average can be derived. However, of those currently serving determinate sentences the average length of prison sentence is six years nine months.
