HC Deb 12 November 1975 vol 899 cc765-6W
Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many East African Asians, holding United Kingdom passports, have been admitted to the United Kingdom, and how many of their dependants; how many such Asians who are eligible for admission have not yet arrived; whether the dependants to all such Asians eligible for admission are listed; and what is the average number of dependants per potential immigrant.

Mr. Alexander W. Lyon

Since the introduction of control in March 1968 and up to the end of June this year 83,272 non-patrial United Kingdom passport holders have been admitted to the United Kingdom from East Africa for settlement. Of these 57,431 were dependants. The number of admitted dependants holding other passports is not available. The number of non-patrial United Kingdom passport holders, including dependants, with no other citizenship remaining in East Africa is estimated to be 45,000, but not all are likely to come here. Dependants are listed only when the head of the household applies for a special voucher.
