The available information comes from two sources, as shown in the tables below.
First, injury accidents, reported to the police, which involve invalid tricycles and casualties to their occupants. This detail, which forms part of the regular statistics of the Department of the Environment, is available only since 1974; no separate data is available for DHSS cars.
Second, the injury accidents to users of invalid tricycles and to DHSS cars are available from DHSS statistics for years ending 30th September. These statistics may include injury accidents not necessarily reported to the police, and relate to the years in which accidents are reported to the DHSS; police reports refer to dates when accidents occurred.
The differences in definitions and procedures account for the differing rates for invalid tricycle accidents as shown by the two sources.
