HL Deb 12 November 1975 vol 365 cc1965-6WA
Lord BEAUMONT of WHITLEY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether circumstances are now propitious for a complete review of the United Kingdom's position in relation to those provisions of the European Social Charter (Cmnd 2643) which they have not yet accepted, bearing in mind that they indicated on 16th May 1975 that it was likely that circumstances would be propitious soon.

Lord JACQUES

Preliminary work on the review has commenced, but detailed examination of the unaccepted provisions will need to take account of the report of the Committee of Independent Experts on the 4th Biennial Reports submitted by contracting Governments in respect of the period 1972 and 1973. This report, which will contain the Committee's most recent views on interpretation of the provisions of the European Social Charter, is expected to be available in December.
