HL Deb 12 November 1975 vol 365 c1965WA
The Earl of KIMBERLEY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will seriously consider changing their decision to display Concordes 01 and 002 permanently in Cambridgeshire and Somerset, so that one of these unique and historic aircraft could be preserved on the North side of London Airport to prevent congestion in the tunnels; and further, whether a charge could be made to the public for admission to see this aircraft, thereby helping the British Airports Authority to pay for the maintenance of the display.

The MINISTER of STATE, DEPARTMENT of INDUSTRY (Lord Beswick)

My Lords, as I informed the House on 29th October, London Airport was one of the sites considered. The British Airports Authority was asked whether it wished to acquire the Concorde prototype aircraft 002 for display at Heathrow Airport, but advised the Department of Trade and Industry that there was no suitable site available.
