HC Deb 11 November 1975 vol 899 cc557-8W
25. Mr. Hannam

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what estimate he has made of the total of financial assistance given to the arts by industrial sponsorship.

Mr. Hugh Jenkins

I hope that more detailed and accurate estimates than those hitherto given will become possible following the discussions that are taking place.

42. Mr. Moonman

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what plans he has to ensure that local authorities make a full contribution to the availability of arts in the community.

Mr. Hugh Jenkins

It is for local authorities themselves to decide what contribution they should make to the availability of the arts, within the resources at their disposal. Government assistance is provided in various ways through the Arts Council, including grants to regional arts associations, the British Film Institute, the Area Museums Service and the acquisition funds administered by the Victoria and Albert and Science Museums.
