§ 22. Mr. Simsasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representations he has received in respect of his proposals to close certain teacher training colleges; and what amendments he intends to make in the light of them.
§ Mr. MulleyAlmost every proposal that a college of education should cease initial training has met with objections. Such objections were carefully considered before final decisions were taken, and accordingly I have no plans to make amendments.
§ 41. Mr. Hattonasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many places are at present available in teacher training colleges; and what is the percentage reduction planned by 1981.
§ Mr. MulleyThe number of teacher training places is being reduced by some 46 per cent. from about 114,000 to about 60,000 by 1981.
