HC Deb 11 November 1975 vol 899 cc562-3W
30. Mr. Loyden

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many children over the age of 5 years do not receive full-time education.

Miss Joan Lestor

The precise number at any time is not known, but since there is a general duty on parents, enforceable by local education authorities, to ensure that their children between 5 and 16 receive full-time education in school or otherwise, and exceptions to this are permitted only in extraordinary circumstances, it must be very small indeed.
