HC Deb 11 November 1975 vol 899 c675W
Mr. Ridley

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the average rent, and the total gross yield, of council house rents in 1973–74; what are the figures for the current financial year; and what has been the decline in the value of money in the same period.

Mr. Armstrong

For 1973–74 in England and Wales the average un-rebated rent was £3.62 a week, and the total gross yield was £835 million. For 1975–76 the estimated figures are about £4.30 and £1,050 million, respectively. The General Index of Retail Prices shows a 32½ per cent. decline in the value of the pound from September 1973 to September 1975.
