HC Deb 10 November 1975 vol 899 c497W
Mr. Gwilym Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what estimates are available for the number of accidents occurring to children in school; and if he will take steps to ensure that all teacher training schemes include provision for first-aid training.

Mr. Mulley

My Department does not produce such estimates. I do not prescribe the content of teacher training courses, but we have advised that all teachers should have a working knowledge of first aid. Most intending teachers are given such training as part of the health education course they normally follow, and if they are to specialise in physical education, home economics or some other practical subject, special attention is paid to this training. It is also open to local education authorities to arrange courses for serving teachers.
