§ Dr. GilbertProvisional figures for 1974–75 expenditure on new construction, improvement, and maintenance of roads in England show a total of £840 million of which about £440 million was undertaken on behalf of this Department and the remainder by local authorities. My right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Scotland and Wales have responsibility for roads expenditure in those countries.
Mr. Wellsasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what he estimates to be the total cost to public funds in the current financial year of all public participation exercises and public inquiries related to trunk roads in Great Britain.
