Mr. Wellsasked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much land was taken in each of the past 10 years for development in the form of: (a) housing, (b) industry and (c) road development, respectively, in Great Britain.

Local authorities have however now been asked in DOE Circular 71/74—Welsh Office Circular 114/74—to complete annual statistical returns covering land use changes starting with the year ending 31st March 1976, and these should provide this type of information for the future.
