HC Deb 10 November 1975 vol 899 cc411-2W
Mr. Frank R. White

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many Road Fund licences have been issued at the latest convenient date.

Mr. Carmichael

In the twelve months ending 31st August 1975 and in relation to Great Britain, 26.83 million—12.18 million for twelve-month periods and 14.65 million for 4-month periods. The DVLC now holds the records of 4.7 mil- lion vehicles out of an estimated total of 18.1 million.

Mr. Frank R. White

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the estimated lost revenue caused by the use of vehicles without a Road Fund licence.

Mr. Carmichael

The best estimate available is some £40 million—though this is based on uncertain evidence.
