§ Mr. Joel BarnettThe total net deficit for the years 1947–48 to 1974–75 is £1,980 million, after interest and taxation and derived from consolidated accounts where they are available. This total is before Government grants to meet deficits on revenue account or in respect of price restraint, but after grants for specific purposes. The net total of direct company taxation paid is £130 million. This total includes some overseas taxation.
