asked the Attorney-General to what legislative or policy factors he attributes the increase in non-industrial staff in the Lord Chancellor's Office from 9,428 on 1st March 1974 to 9,906 on 1st July 1975.

More staff are needed to help to deal with the continuing increase in the volume of work coming before the Crown and county courts. An improvement in recruitment made it possible to fill vacancies throughout the Department.
