employers to consult with trade unions on health and safety matters, under Section 2(4) of the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Mr. Harold Walker

It is for the Health and Safety Commission to put forward to my right hon. Friend proposals for the making of such regulations, having first consulted widely with interested parties. The Chairman of the Health and Safety Commission informs me that the consultative document containing the commission's proposals for the necessary regulations to provide for the appointment of safety representatives by recognised trade unions under Section 2(4) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and for the establishment at the request of the appointed safety representatives of safety committees under Section 2(7) is expected to be published in mid-December.
