HC Deb 10 November 1975 vol 899 cc513-4W
Mr. Greville Janner

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many convicted football hooligans are at present attending attendance centres on Saturday afternoons; for how many months they are required to attend; and how these figures compare with similar months in each of the previous five years.

Mr. Alexander W. Lyon

I regret that this information is not available.

The attendance requirements which may be ordered are set out in Section 19 of the Criminal Justice Act 1948 and Section 10 of the Criminal Justice Act 1961.

Mr. Greville Janner

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many, and what percentage, of convicted football hooligans have been sentenced to imprisonment, to detention centres, to borstal, to fines of £100 and between £75 and £100, £50 and £75, £25 and £50, 10 and £25 and less than 10 or given conditional or absolute discharge or bound over to keep the peace, during each of the latest periods for which records are available.

Mr. Alexander D. Lyon

I regret that this information is not available. The criminal statistics do not distinguish offences committed in connection with football matches, which may be charged under a variety of statutes, from identical offences committed by other members of the community.
