HC Deb 10 November 1975 vol 899 cc521-2W
Mr. Hicks

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will seek to extend the provisions of the Fire Precautions Act 1971 to cover universities and other such establishments, which are regularly used by the general public for either conferences or recreational and holiday purposes; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Summerskill

When a university or college provides sleeping accommodation for members of the general public it may be covered by the Fire Precautions (Hotels and Boarding Houses) Order 1972, but this can be determined only by reference to the circumstances of the case. Fire authorities have been informed of the position.
