Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many administrative staff with medical qualifications are employed within her Department; and what were the comparable figures three years ago.

In November 1975 the medical administrative staff of the Department of Health and Social Security in England included 340 qualified doctors, a number of whom devote a proportion of their time to duties of a clinical nature. The comparable figure for 1st November 1972 was 241 doctors.
