Mr. Russell Johnston

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will now introduce legislation to implement the recommendations of the Thomson Committee on criminal procedure.

Mrs. Bain

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the Thomson Report on police powers.

Mr. William Ross

I propose to initiate consultations on the committee's recommendations, including those on police powers, with interested bodies and organisations, and will consider the question of legislation in the light of these consultations.
