§ Mr. Rifkindasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what grants or loans from EEC sources have been made to firms, institutions or other organisations (a) in Edinburgh and (b) elsewhere in the Lothians Region.
§ Lord James Douglas-Hamiltonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what grants and loans have been made available, respectively, to Edinburgh and the Lothians Region since Great Britain joined the EEC and what percentage of the United Kingdom total these figures represent.
§ Mr. William RossThe only grants or loans from EEC sources known to be allocated in Edinburgh and elsewhere in the Lothians Region are from the European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund (FEOGA) and from the European Investment Bank through the Industrial and Commercial Finance Corporation.
Grants amounting to £308,570 have been approved by FEOGA in respect of the following projects:For the construction of new building and plant for the production of parfried French potatoes at Bo'ness.For the extension and alteration of an abattoir and meat-processing plant at Bathgate.For the construction of a beef production research unit at Ingliston, of which a proportion of the total grant mentioned above goes to the other half of the project in England.EIB loans totalling £540,000 have been made through ICFC to projects with the same description and location as the first two described above and to a firm manufacturing electronic and nucleonic equipment in Edinburgh.For other EEC sources of assistance, that is the European Social Fund and the European Coal and Steel Community, it is generally not possible to state how much is allocated to projects in any part of Scotland. In these circumstances it would be misleading to offer a percentage.
