Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the precise number of persons living within (a) the Edinburgh district and (b) the Lothians Region, according to the latest available figures; and what percentage of the United Kingdom total these figures represent.

The estimated populations at 30th June 1974 of Edinburgh City District and of Lothian Region were 475,042 and 758,383 respectively. These figures represent 0.85 and 1.36 per cent. of the United Kingdom population.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many contracts involving persons employed by the Government or by nationalised industries within Edinburgh and the Lothians Region have been placed with EEC countries; and what number of jobs within Edinburgh and the Lothians Region are dependent on contracts with EEC countries.
