§ Mr. Trotterasked the Secretary of State for Industry why he has declined to meet representatives of the shop stewards and management of British Channel Ship-repairers Ltd. who have indicated, subsequent to their meeting with the Minister of State, Department of Industry, that they wished to meet the Secretary of State in person to discuss their concern over his proposals to nationalise their company.
§ Mr. MeacherThe policy behind the Government's nationalisation proposals was fully explained by my right hon. and noble Friend the Minister of State, Department of Industry, to representatives of shop stewards and management of Bristol Channel Ship Repairers Limited on 11th March and the proposals have now been published in the Aircraft and Shipbuilding Industries Bill. I do not 431W consider that any useful purpose would be served by a further ministerial meeting with the company at this stage.
