HC Deb 05 May 1975 vol 891 cc366-7W
Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the latest estimate of the cost of building a three-bedroomed house in the Central Belt of Scotland and in the Western Isles, respectively.

Mr. William Ross

The average erection cost of four-apartment, five-person local authority houses approved during the last six months was £10,420 in the Central Belt of Scotland and £13,250 in the Western Isles. In determining indicative costs and subsidisable expenditure for new housebuilding in the Western Isles an allowance is given to take account of the high level of building costs in the area; and the subsidy arrangements are expenditure-related.
